The Road of Dreadfulness

I officially loath the back road to Smith's. I've never liked it, and it kind of scares me because of the huge pond (or small lake...however you look at it) that you pass on the East side of the road. It has no fence, and I have a real fear of crashing my car and ending up in a body of water stuck in my van, sinking, with ALL of my kids. I have a white knuckle grip every time I drive by that section. Plus, have you ever been driving along that road at night in the pitch dark, and all of a sudden a Mexican comes wondering out of the fields???? Scares the crap out of me. It always happens by that crazy S curve in the road.

Traveling on "THAT" road has gotten even worse this spring, because of the millions of potholes that have appeared. There are certain stretches of the road where you really have to go about 5-10 miles per hour. Ugh.

Well, last night I decided to make a 'milk, bread, & fruit' run to the store. I figured Smith's would be the quickest, and they had milk 2 for $5. Jon does these type of store runs for me 98% of the time. But he had been up until 3:00am the night before, and really needed to go to sleep. It was about 9:30pm or so, and I decided to take Cody with me. He is usually in bed by about 8:30-9...but I really like going to the store with him, so he stayed up to go with me. Well, we hop in Jon's car, get on the above mentioned road, and slowly make our way down the worst section. It's starting to snow/rain, and the wind is whipping. Visibility isn't all that great. Not bad, but not great. Well, I proceed to drive over a pothole at just the right angle...and pop my front tire. ARG!!!!! Cody gets extremely concerned and starts in on this, "What are we going to do? Mom, what should we do? Are we going to be alright? What should we do?" :o) He was very concerned about making sure I was alright...he feels like my little protector. lol... And to top it all off, my van is in the shop to get the engine fixed, so Jon had to bug his friend (thanks Jason!) to come and give him a ride so he could change the tire for me. So now we are not only stuck with the bill for getting the engine fixed in the van, but this tire for the car as well. Fun stuff I tell ya. :o) Good thing my husband is handy, and can fix things like this...Even if he's exhausted, and has to go out in the freezing cold to do it. This may sound antiquated, but he really is my protector.

So. The moral of my story is this: Bad things happen on "THAT" road. Avoid it at all costs!

I would like to thank Jason C for not even hesitating and coming and helping me out, I know he would have jumped right in and helped me change it (not that I needed his help) cept he had on some nice clothes. Thanks bro.

Heather, your comment above is LOL funny - classic!

Anyhow, Jason told me to call Lehi City so I did today and left a voice mail message for a fellow. He actually called us back and is going to see what can be done to help out with paying for the new rim and the alignment. Could be that they will pass the buck to the county, but at least he called.

Oh my gosh....First of all, I am totally laughing at Heather's comment. (Too funny...) I felt so bad for you last night, and when Jason told me it was on "that road", I felt even worse...'cause I know how "that road" scares you. :o) I'm glad you at least had Cody with you!! I'm glad Jason was able to give Jon a ride over.... We were just turning on to our street when Jon called. It was a big sacrifice for Jason to let his Taco Time food wait...but he really loves you guys, so he did it. ;o) Just teasing.... I promised I'd wait for him to get back to eat mine. ha ha Anyway, I'm glad you're OK..and that maybe the city will do something for you. They really should.... It's a horrible road. I hate it. I'm paranoid about it, too, only for different reasons. I'm always thinking some crazy driver is going to smash into me on that crazy S-curve thing. One day Bishop Dougher almost hit me.... (shhhhh ha ha) Talk to you soon!

I drive that road almost daily too. I know the swerves to miss pot holes by heart. How sad.
I'm with you on having a fear of crashing into the water. I get some anxiety by that pond thing and crossing the bigger bridge.
I did notice that like 5 of the potholes were filled today. I was sort of wondering if it was the homeowner that lived right there that did it, haha.
Sorry you had your tire pop, how frustrating. It's nice to have great friends to help :)

That road sucks. That road was one of the reasons I was excited to move (when we were going to move). That road is the fastest way to get to Ethan's pre-school but I hate it! I usually go past the Jr. High instead.

I already do (avoid it at all costs), and just head to Albertsons instead! Sorry about your tire....that stinks :(

Or Walmart, Costco, or Target....(although I'm not a Walmart fan, either!)

Ok that road is bad I totally agree. I have seen 2 other cars there in the last week with flat tires. Me being a Lehi girl, I have to say that I LOVE that back road. It has some fun memories
(naughty and nice)!!!

Everyone say a big thank you to JASON! THANK YOU!

Sorry for your bad luck the other night...on the other hand, it shows you who your true friends are, so maybe it was a good thing. :o)

I drive that road back and forth for preschool also and it did just start getting worse and worse. The city really should fix your tire for you. 'That' road IS terrible. Dually noted. Do not drive on that road!

I totally agree with you! Last Summer when Wade and Stetson were on the boys camp out I decided to get 5 buck pizza with the little ones. I turn down that road and a truck in front of me is flying I mean totally speeding. Well sure enough,He spins out turns completely around and hits a tree in one of the front yards. (You can see the tree still, it is pulled up by the roots and I wonder how long it will live)Anyway, I totally grab my cell thinking that whoever was in there is terribly hurt. Call 911 and while talking to dispatch, 2 guys jump out to the truck and grab a 12 pack of beer and hide it in the ditch. I am totally saying "Oh my gosh they are drunk drivers and they just took beer out of their truck and hid it in the ditch." By now I'm thinking why didn't I just drive on? So dispatch is telling me to stay there and make sure there is no one in the car. Like heck I'm going to see if someone is in the car. Well another truck speeds passed me, pulls up and the two guys hurry and give the 12 pack to them.I tell dispatch and they ask for the license plate. I'm thinking where are the dang cops, I want to go home. Finally I just tell dispatch I'm driving on when Fire Engines, Paramedics, and 4 cop cars pass me. Then dispatch calls me back and says there is no one there would I please go back to the scene.I was almost home and by now Tanner and Lindsey are scared to death saying they want Dad to come home.I turn around and right by the river 3 police cars have pulled over the 2nd truck and as I drive by they are taking the 12 pack out of the back of the truck. I get back to the scene and the officer tells me no one was there when they got there. They suspect that they ran off into the corn fields and are hiding.I tell him I just need to go get my kids home and he agrees-thank goodness. So there you have it...cold Pizza, scared kids, my adrenaline levels highly raised just from seeing the accident let alone wondering if the 2 guys are going to jump out of the fields as I drive by!I agree Ally, Avoid that back road and go through the Junior High way!
