Do you have a leprechaun in your house?

I don't remember St. Patrick's Day being a big deal when I was growing up. Although my mom would give me a good pinch if I wasn't wearing green. But I don't remember being infatuated with Leprechauns. Well, the times have changed, because my 7 yr old is quite obsessed with them! She has written "Our Leprechaun" (I think each family has one in their house this time of year??) a note every night for the last week.

Dear Leprechaun,
How many siblings do you have? Are you the eldest in your family? How many pieces of gold do you have? Can you please sign your name here, and draw a picture of yourself? I would really appreciate it if you let me see you. Please?

Your friend,
Brenna

This obsession culminated on Wednesday, when she made a village for "Our Leprechaun". Here are some pictures.

Overview: Red pillow is for him to climb up on. Big green crockpot bowl is a pool. There is a bed on the stool with a paper towel for a blanket. A slide made of a frozen dinner box, leading to a banana bridge. She also taped up a little picture of Jesus above the bed. I guess our leprechaun is a Christian.

Some peanuts by the bed. As well as a drink with a little green straw to make drinking easier. Later she added a stack of quarters to entice him.

Here is the shower for after he's taken a dip in the crock pot pool.

Her note to our leprechaun that she taped to the side of the counter right by the village:

A Leprechaun Bed
(arrow pointing down)

If there is a Leprechaun lay down.

If you have a pet, use the water bowl.
Please write back.

PS Stay with me

I informed her that the leprechaun will most likely not respond until St. Patrick's Day...but he used the village that night, we're sure. She is so excited to get a note from him it's unreal. She's going to wear green to bed tonight, because if she doesn't her dad will pinch her the second she wakes up! (Green eyes don't count as wearing green in our house, darn it.) So we'll see what happens tonight!

That is the cutest thing ever!! What a little smarty pants. I love the picture of Jesus. That was the cutest part, I thought. :o) I hope that Leprechaun writes her a very sweet Thank You note for the nice little village she spent so much time on. :o)

Allyson,
I think the school teachers have been awesome about St. Patty's Day this year! Tanner and Lindsey have had things happen in their classrooms all week last week. Both made a trap to try to catch the Leprechaun too. You inspired me, I will have to take pics and post them for my journal too!

Did Brenna really write all of that? She is such a good speller and has great handwriting. I'm comparing her to Asher :)

Yes, she wrote all of that. She can be an extremely neat writer...here she actually wrote that while it was taped to the side of the counter, so actually not her neatest. I think good handwriting is definitely more of a girl thing.

When your comment said Jon, I figured it was you. I sure Jon is sensitive but not that sensitive! I totally think you should start teaching a ballroom class for the girls around here. I wish my girls where old enough to start learning.

Allison, Hi! I found your blog off of Lindsey Stroud's. Sounds like your daughter (by the way a VERY cute one) has been haning out with Alec Harmon. He did the exact same thing at his house and made a house for the Leprechaun with a pool of course with some kind of "safety" feature so he wouldn't drown. How funny! I was laughing reading your post!
