The Cricket Whisperer...

So Ella came with me to buy some crickets. Why would I buy crickets you ask? Because Cody has a pet Gecko. It's a really cool lizard, and he loves it. He named it Geico, after the insurance company. :o) Geico eats crickets. Not only do we have to feed Geico crickets, but we have feed the crickets cricket food and water. Yes, seems a little much, but really it's not bad. So back to Ella and myself going to get crickets....We get them at PetSmart for $3. 50 for 25 large ones. We get out of the car, and Ella wants to hold my hand and skip with me into the store. So we skip along merrily as Ella chatters away to me about the cute birds she's going to see inside the store. Get in there, buy the crickets, and make our way to the car. Ella is very happy to get to hold the container of crickets on the way home. She's intently watching them for the first half of the ride home, not really saying much of anything (for her this is VERY out of character). Then she asks me,
"Mom, can the Hannah Montana's hear us really good?"

I'm thinking WHAT?? "The what?"

"The Hannah Montana's!!!!! Can they hear really good?"

"The WHAT? The Hannah Montana's? Can Hannah Montana do what?"

"No, Mom...not Hannah Montana! You know the Hannah Montana things that stick out of the crickets head!"

"Oh, you mean ANTENNAS?"

"Yeah, Hannah Antennas."

"They are just called Antennas. Not Hannah Antennas."

"Oh, ok. Well, can those Montennas hear us if we are not in the same room?"

And she had a few other questions about crickets in general. Then she tells me that she's named the crickets. I don't think much of it at first, and just say "Uh huh..." Then I hear her say:

"Oh, there's 'Frankie'. And look at cute 'Climber'. Oh, watch out 'Gentle'!!!"

Then she tells me that she's a good "Cricket Talker" and can hear them talk, and they think she is their Doctor.

"Watch out Devon! You'll get hurt if jump into the wall!" (Said with MUCH concern)

"Oh Frankie, you silly cricket, the food is over there...." (A slight giggle, as if she's talking to a cute child who's made a mistake.)

"Noooooo Climber!!! Don't bite his head and eat him!" (With terror in her voice)

[Going over the railroad tracks] "Hold on my little crickets! We'll be alright in a second! I'll keep you safe!"

She proceeds in similar fashion until we're home. She gets home, gives the crickets to Cody. But then she realizes that they are going to get eaten by Geico. This does not sit well with her. But she tells me that's what crickets are for, and then she's fine. :o) Pure entertainment, that one.

That is too cute! I'm going to think about crickets now every time I hear Hannah Montana (not that my boys will admit to ever watching that show!). What a cutie though. I like how she named them all and could tell which ones were which. lol

That is so cute! I love her little names for them. When I was reading it I was so afraid that they were going to spill in your car and be everywhere! Oh, crickets make me cringe! You are such a nice mom! And I love that Cody named his lizard Geico. That is too cute!
